Food waste occurs when surplus production is not absorbed by the market. Therefore, the products end up spoiling due to problems in storage, transport difficulties, as well as supermarket waste.
In 2019, there were 931 million tons of food wasted. This suggests that 17% of the world's total food production went to waste THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! Meanwhile the most dramatic situation is that of the African continent, where one in five inhabitants goes hungry (approximately 250 million people, that is 19.1% of the total, more than double the global average).
